I asked a simple question – was that net profit or gross profit?

Basically – how much money are you keeping and how much money is Amazon taking from your hard work.

They couldn’t answer my questions. So we looked at it together and when all said and done, Amazon was taking 35% of their profits. So although their email said $700, it actually was $455. Amazon took almost $250 of their profit! And the problem is the more they sell, the more amazon takes. That isn’t a business. Why should you do all the work when Amazon takes a big cut?

Plus – on top of that, you have to “request” your money and that takes time. If your time is money (it should be) that is more profit down the drain.

The best profit is is high and fast. Amazon in my opinion is Ebay without the auction. Is there income potential, sure. Is there ways you can be sustainable? Sure. Does it put cash in your pocket fast? No.

Craigslist Does.

Amazon vs. Craigslist

I choose to sell on craigslist because it is peer to peer. I sell something to someone. I remove the middle like amazon or ebay. Yes – those sites get you greater reach and possible a global audience, but still millions of people look at craigslist each and every day.

Craigslist puts CASH in your pocked – and all of it. No waiting for money to clear. No counting what percentage Amazon will take. CASH. You buy something for $10 and sell it for $50 you make $40.

Easy. Money.

And – you can scale and grow it. You buy something for $1000 and sell it for $10,000 you make $9000 dollars. No middle man digging into your money, just money digging into your pocket.

Look – at the end of the day you have to make a decision on why you are trying to sell something in the first place. For me personally, I sell something for fast cash. I want money and I want it as fast as possible. I don’t mind hustling a bit to get it. That is why Craigslist will always win against Amazon or anything else in my book. I don’t like waiting for money.

But don’t let this fool you. I was NOT successful first try. It takes a bit of trial and error to get the perfect system down before you start getting success. And that is the case for anything that you do. Odds are that you will NOT be successful first time out of the gate.

I could spit out hundreds of tips on the best way to be successful, but in my experience, there is one tip that you need to have above all the others.

Hustle.

What Is Hustle

Hustle means a few different things, but the one I want to focus on is this definition:

to move or work in a quick and energetic way

Basically what it means is DO SOMETHING. Take the action to start the trial and error process. The more you do, the more you learn. The more you learn. The more you can adjust and make more money,

I show a few ways to use craigslist to make money here, but this will NEVER make you a dime if you don’t put it into practice. There are a lot of people in the world who want to sit on their butt and have money just roll into their back account. And there actually are ways to do stuff that can almost get you there (affiliate marketing, writing books, etc). But none of them will magically make you money. Every single thing takes work to get started. I am a firm believer that if you put in the work, you will be successful, regardless if you are trying to put money on autopilot to live your dream life or you are trying to just earn a few extra bucks on craigslist. You need to get up, take action, and work to make it work.

Other people will take the action, then get discouraged because it didn’t work the first time. Did you ride your bike without training wheels for the first time? Probably not. You probably fell into the bushes a few times. But you got up, brushed yourself off, and KEPT GOING. If you truly want to be successful in your life, regardless of what it is, hustle is the key. Set a goal, create a plan, work the plan.

ACTION = MONEY. MONEY = FREEDOM.

Before I dig into that more, let me take a big step back and tell you how I got started.

I was a freshman at San Diego State and on top of the world. I lived in my own place on a granny flat on my parents property which means I paid no rent and had a place all to myself. I had a job that paid some what decent money for being 18. I had a girlfriend I was just started to get serious with. I was living the dream for an 18 year old. But that changed quickly.

In October of 2003, I lost every physical thing I owned. And when I say everything, I literally mean everything. There was a huge wildfire in San Diego that year and the property I lived on was destroyed. I ran from the house with literally the shirt on my back and the shoes on my feet. I didn’t even have socks!

No big deal, right? Insurance takes care of everything. Yes – if we had it. My parents were somewhat old school in their beliefs and didn’t have any insurance. I was up the creek without a paddle. And that started a spiral downward that pushed me over the edge. I struggled to catch up in school after taking so many days out, which eventually didn’t happened and I flunked out my freshman year. I cut back on my hours at work, to this day I still have no good reason why, which mean no money coming in. And on top of all of that, I decided that this would be a great to move out with my girlfriend. At the time, great idea for us. Bad idea for money.

Life goes on though, and eventually things started smoothing out. I went to a junior college and eventually back in to SDSU. I started working more and more hours to bring in more and more income. But that jump moving out was too much, and I never seemed to have any money. Have you ever felt like that? To say I was living pay check to pay check would be an understatement. I remember having $.43 in my bank account, needing groceries on Sunday and not getting paid on Monday. But if I did credit on my debit card, the bank wouldn’t clear the funds till wed, allowing me time to put the pay check in and have everything be fine. But even that wasn’t my breaking point.

My breaking point was popcorn. I went to a concert with my friend and some friends (mother in law bought tickets for us). I went to the restroom with my buddy and he stopped to get a soda and popcorn for his girlfriend. The total was $13.50. I wanted to get some for my girlfriend, but I didn’t have $13.50 available at the time. Walking back, I remember seeing that look in her face, that look of disappointment, but understand where we were at. That is the point I said no more. That is when I decided I need to pick myself up and change. I need to make more money.

Now bringing this story back to why you are reading this. I turned to Craigslist for extra money. I started off selling everything I had for a few bucks. If I had something and I wasn’t actively using it, it was getting sold. I had some great success selling stuff, and made sure everyone knew what I was doing. People started getting me their stuff to sell so I had always stream of stuff to sell. After college, I stilled used craigslist to make some money as needed. I started to devising other ways to make money and found some ways that I was quite successful at. And that got me to here now.
